The Opportunity: MEL Coordinator

Position: Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Coordinator

Location: Remote (Candidates can be based in Europe, America, or Africa)

Type: Permanent


As the MEL Coordinator, you will be at the heart of SAN’s efforts to track progress, measure collective impact, and promote organizational learning across our network. Your role will also include coordinating our future Knowledge Management (KM) platform—a critical tool for facilitating evidence-based decision-making and scaling best practices across the network.


Key Responsibilities

  • Data Tracking & Reporting:

    • Monitor progress toward SAN’s targets at both project and network levels.

    • Consolidate diverse monitoring data into cohesive narratives and visualizations.

  • Capacity Building & Standardization:

    • Develop and provide standardized monitoring frameworks, tools, and guidelines for our 34 member organizations.

    • Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and webinars to strengthen monitoring capabilities.

  • Project & Program Coordination:

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed strong MEL components into project proposals and implementations.

    • Supervise MEL activities, including data collection, analysis, and quarterly/annual reporting.

  • Quality Assurance & Data Management:

    • Validate and review monitoring data for accuracy and completeness.

    • Establish databases and manage data flows efficiently and securely.

  • Knowledge Management & Organizational Learning:

    • Capture lessons learned and success stories, translating them into actionable insights.

    • Spearhead the development and piloting of a network-wide Knowledge Management System (KMS) to promote continuous learning and innovation.

  • Additional Duties:

    • Monitor SAN Secretariat’s carbon emissions and support the development of a Carbon Emission Compensation Program.

    • Represent the MEKC team at internal and external events, working groups, and industry discussions.


What We’re Looking For

Academic & Professional Background:

  • A university degree in International Development, Environmental Science, Social Science, Economics, Agriculture, Rural Development, or a related field.

  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years in a MEL-focused role within an NGO, multilateral organization, or network setting.

  • Demonstrated experience in sustainable agriculture, nature conservation, or related fields.

  • Proficiency in designing MEL frameworks, logframes, and data collection plans, along with managing project evaluations using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies.

  • Experience in coordinating and enhancing digital platforms, such as intranets, online communities, or learning management systems, is a plus.


Skills & Personal Attributes:

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data synthesis capabilities.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English (Spanish is desirable).

  • A proactive and collaborative mindset with the ability to manage multiple activities across different time zones.

  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and a commitment to SAN’s mission of creating a sustainable, equitable future for all.
